Huge Open Source Music Project

I've decided that I'm going to give away the source files for every piece of music I've ever written.  Including everything I've ever done under the name "Pilchard"...  Or at least everything I can still find.  In most cases they will be FL Studio (formerly Fruityloops) .flp files but there might be a few other formats in there too.  I won't be limiting it to finished pieces either...  Oh no, you're getting the whole lot.  From every one bar unfinished wonder to full on complete mixes.

Where possible, I'll give away samples too.  Unfortunately I can't promise too much on that front because a lot of the samples I use are protected by copyright in some form or another but if I've created it myself or if it is public domain it will be included with the project.

In some of the projects you will find that they reference home grown VST/i plugins.  I'll try to get all those posted at some stage too.

This is a mammoth project and will take some time...  I'm also not exactly sure how I'm going to do it.  I may end up creating a sourceforge for music.  Now there's an idea...

Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you all in advance!

you crazy, but i like you... (it's a movie quote, just in-case, never know who you're gonna creep out these days) but ya, sounds like an awesome idea. if I still had any of my old stuff I'd donate it too.

that's awesome i would love to review your projects for more ideas on making some dope sounds! it sucks how you're not really known over here in the usa much because all the people like here is the new mtv junk that hits big because it's on mtv and the "artists" don't even produce their own music. good thing you're doing here tho!

@nave - It's not all about being famous. Or rich for that matter... If you can enjoy what you're doing and other people enjoy it too that's what really matters. If you can make a little money in the process that's a Brucey Bonus!

@voyager - Wow, you make me feel old! Old but appreciated. Not a bad thing! :)

@mysty - Hope you're doing OK bro. Been a while!

@nate - Nah, it's just highly subjective... They probably think our taste sucks too! :)

Amazing idea! If this turns out to be some sort of beneficial success to you in some way perhaps some sort of automated submission system for public use... since Image-Line is cutting out the collab project, and sectionz is never working now-a-days.

I am sooo excited to see the great pilchards raw work :)

And YAY you did post some trance, listening now!

There are a few things that go into that direction, but they're not quite there yet. Kompoz is one of them. You can create a project there, but it's mainly WAV/track based. No upload of project files for sequencer-X or Y.

Man, that would be so good. For beginners (like me) its so useful to be able to look at how others have done it, and rip a few of the sounds for a bit until you can sort it out your self.

and that tzachitx tune is amazing, i was well happy the day i found that hidden away in FL

Hi Liam, great feedback. I'm still not sure how I'll do it yet but it is on the list now for sure.

I was thinking of going Wiki style but it is always a worry that it might go to poop if you don't constantly monitor it.

Its a shame you cancelled Pilchard! It was an inspiration to us all and you were our idol. :) When did the thought of ending it all cross your mind?

I dunno, some promotion might be required indeed. Maybe trying to get some of the old member base back in the first place and work things from there on. imo it would be worth a try...

Yep.  I can do promo, don't worry about that!

Actually, I'm just testing something...

Want in?

you know whats wierd? I made a reply regarding this blog post on AF without even remembering this blog was here, 2 minutes later decided to check my gmail and found the replies to this in there lol... so how come no one has suggested mixmatching the two ideas on AF and just making it a Literal Free for all of crazy music/techie Madness?

That could well happen.

I keep thinking that a Wiki might be the way forward.  Just let the users work it all out for themselves.

The Ning thing is OK but it's kinda restricted and waiting for features that may never happen doesn't seem like a fun game to me.

Good. I will use the fl files to create some other music. I'm from Italy and I listen to your music too! I'm using fl studio to compose some music. If is good to you, i can send you some songs, I would like to have your opinion :D . (sry for my english)

hey nolf! Check out http://audiofoolz.ning.com/ It's a site being run by the Pilchman himself! At least until he's sure which direction he wants to go. Not only is he hosting the site but a few of us Long time Pilchard cult followers are there and we can give you a hand with production too!
